Amarillo Opera in the Community
Fairytale Operas
In January of 2022, Amarillo Opera started partnering with WOWW (Windows on a Wider World), and the Amarillo Independent School District to present our Fairytale Opera performances to elementary schools all over the Texas Panhandle. Over the last several years, Amarillo Opera has been able to introduce classical opera music to over 5,000 elementary school students due to our Fairytale Operas.
Texas Tech University
Amarillo Opera partners with Texas Tech University in two main ways, through our Fairytale Operas, and TTU’s Opera Certificate.
Students who participate in our outreach operas get to spend a week in Amarillo, bringing the fairytale opera to elementary aged students from all over the Texas Panhandle.
Students who partake in TTU’s opera certificate work with Amarillo Opera to cover a role and get experience performing outreach and comprimario roles.
Amarillo Opera Institute
In the summer of 2024 Amarillo Opera created the Amarillo Opera Institute. This summer program introduces high school students to an intensive artistic environment. Students receive daily voice lessons, coachings, movement classes and get the opportunity to perform for the local community, along with a more formal showcase.
Students also get the opportunity to perform in masterclasses and work with our talented Teaching Artists. If you are interested in participating in AOI in the summer of 2025, either as a Teaching Artist or Student, please contact Alissa Henderson at alissa.henderson@amarilloopera.org.
Amarillo College Opera Workshop
Through our unique partnership with Amarillo College, AC students are given opportunities to participate in main-stage productions and educational outreach programs. Additionally, AC students receive masterclasses from visiting artists who are performing in our mainstage productions.
Amarillo Opera Ensemble
Aimed at regional singers, of all levels, the Amarillo Opera Ensemble, is meant to be the premiere opera chorus in the Texas Panhandle. Ensemble members will be called on to do outreach activities and will be given comprimario and small roles in mainstage productions whenever possible.
